To execute the complete start-up process for most nonprofit organizations, our basic fees are as follows:
$1,000-$1,200 initially, and an equal amount in 30 days (California nonprofits pay the higher fee, since there are more steps involved).
Churches cost $100 more, since they require the gathering and reporting of significantly more information.
Government fees are paid directly to each government agency and are in addition to the above fees. The IRS charges $400 for very low budget organizations (under $10K per year) and $850 for all other organizations. This is a one-time application fee.
States charge between $50 and $200 to incorporate your organization. Check with the Website of your state's Secretary of State or Department of Corporations to verify the fee. Most states have an expedited fee as well.
If you would like us to assist you with part of the process, our fees will be less, of course.
Many clients are able to complete their incorporation, federal EIN, and Bylaws on their own, and simply need help with IRS Form 1023 (exemption application).
Our fee to generate a high-quality Form 1023, with a maximum chance of passing muster with the IRS (remember, we have a 100% success rate in that regard) is $1,600-$1,800.
If, however, YOU'VE generated Form 1023 and done a meticulous job and simply want us to bring it up to our high standard, the fee is $1,200-$1,300.
If you're in California and require help with the state tax exemption application (FTB Form 3500A), our fee to generate it is $150.
We can also assist with the process of amending your Articles of Incorporation. Please contact us for fee information.
TAX RETURNS: To generate IRS Form 990, we charge $100 per hour. It's crucial that your accounting be computer generated and in good order. If that's the case, we can generally complete Form 990-EZ in as little as 4-5 hours. More complex organizations, or those whose bookkeeping is faulty, will incur a higher fee, of course.
